We’ve got summer on our minds this month, specifically getting ready for another hot summer in Columbia. South Carolina heat can be pretty serious. However, there are lots of steps you can take to protect your BMW (or your Mercedes or your Mini Cooper), your passengers, and yourself when out in the summer heat.
The key to getting through a hot summer is good planning. That may mean making more decisions than you’d like to make, but those decisions can spare you and your car a lot of oppressive heat. Here are some of the things you can do to get ahead of summer’s heat!
Plan your trips. The less you have to go out, the less you expose yourself to the summer heat! The fewer trips you make, the less you spend in gas on air conditioning and travel. And you can delay travel to the morning and dusk when you have shadows on your side for shade.
Look after your interior. It takes a beating every summer when you close the windows and let the sunshine bake your car with just the oxygen trapped in the cabin. Please give it some appropriate treatment when you can.
Check your fluids. Be sure to get oil, transmission, brake, and coolant all topped off before you go on a long trip, and keep an eye on them all summer. Don’t forget the water on your battery!
Test your A/C out. If there are any issues with your air conditioning, don’t put it off. Please take it to a qualified mechanic. Driving in a car with no AC in the hottest part of summer is a losing proposition.
If you have any doubts about your air conditioning as we go into summer and long trips are a reality, be sure to stop by our Brown Motor Works Northeast location at 520 Clemson Rd., Columbia, SC 29229, or schedule an appointment online.
